As an initiative to provide a professional development path for tutors, the Common Core, in collaboration with the Centre for Applied English (CAES) and Communication-Intensive Courses (CiC), is hosting a 1-day workshop open to all Common Core tutors.

Date: Monday, 29 August 2022

Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Location: Main Building Room 141

The workshop will be facilitated by Jack Tsao (Associate Director of the CC), Miranda Legg (Associate Director and Principal Lecturer of the CAES) and Simon Boynton (Lecturer of the CAES).

This hands-on workshop will provide practical skills and strategies to enhance the engagement and experiences of students within interdisciplinary courses. It will cover:

• How to be an effective Common Core tutor to maximise student engagement
• How to plan and run a tutorial
• How to create communication-rich assessment tasks and give feedback to students
• The basics of classroom management

Upon satisfactory completion of all course assessments, participants will receive a certificate formally recognising their commitment to professional development.

The course is suitable for both new and experienced tutors.
