We invite HKU undergraduates to participate in a 3-month research project from 1 March to 31 May 2024, exploring the role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping students’ learning and future aspirations.

As a student researcher, you will reflect on your own educational journey, life ambitions, and expectations in relation to the rapid proliferation of AI.

For the research, you will be required to perform the following tasks:

• Submit detailed reflections on how you perceive your university learning experiences in relation to the context of AI.
• Design survey questionnaires and interview questions, and draft ethics applications, (group task).
• Recruit a small group of students as participants (individual task)
• Perform data collection by administering survey and interviews (individual task)
• Transcribe the interviews.
• Perform preliminary analysis on the data.
• Prepare a final report on your research findings and experience.

While the research is mostly self-paced, students should be prepared to commit around 60 hours of work and meet certain milestones and attend research meetings. Undergraduate students are eligible to earn a certificate and apply for two (2) non-graduating academic credit through HKU Horizons (The credit appears on your transcript but does not count towards your GPA or graduation).

Participants will gain practical experience in basic qualitative research methodologies. HKU UGC-funded students will receive a stipend of up to HK$4,500 for completing the project and all assigned activities. Due to UGC regulations, the stipend is not applicable to non-UGC funded international exchange students.

This opportunity is available to all HKU undergraduate students. Limited positions available. No prior training is necessary.
