Advanced Standing and Credit Transfer for Common Core
Faculty Boards are the authority for approving credit transfer and advanced standing in accordance with the University’s “Credit Accumulation and Transfer Policy”, and the regulatory provisions and principles as approved by the Senate.

Please note that the special Common Core Proviso in the determination of the Graduation Grade Point Average (GGPA) will not apply to students who have been granted Advanced Standing or Credit Transfer for Common Core courses.
Advanced Standing
Advanced standing may be granted to students in recognition of studies completed successfully before admission to the University. Students who have been granted Advanced Standing will not be granted any further credit transfer for those studies for which Advanced Standing has been granted. Please refer to UG2 of the University’s Regulations for First Degree Curricula for details.
In respect of the Common Core requirements, the maximum number of credits which can be granted is:

The granting of advanced standing for the Common Core Curriculum is under a blanket waiver in respect of:
- students who have completed a 7-year IB or GCE ALE (12 credits)
- AD holders for direct entry to the Senior Year (24 credits)
- HD holders for direct entry to the Senior Year (18 credits)
The granting of advanced standing for the Common Core Curriculum is on a case-by-case basis in respect of:
- students from other examination systems, following a 7-year secondary curriculum (not exceeding 12 credits)
- AD holders entering Year 1 (not exceeding 24 credits)
- HD holders entering Year 1 (not exceeding 18 credits)
- first degree holders (not exceeding 36 credits)
- UGs on transfer from other universities (not exceeding 24 credits)

Credit Transfer
Students may transfer credits for courses completed at other institutions at any time during their study of their programme.
The maximum number of credits which can be transferred to the CC Curriculum is limited to 50% of your programme requirements (i.e. 50% of 36 credits of 24 credits as the case may be). The granting of credit transfer is on a case-by-case basis, and the requirements of taking courses from different Areas of Inquiry as stipulated in the University’s UG5(c) Regulations must continue to be met.
